An exceptional day out was had, at the fantastic conservation site that is ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
The Spectrum team and 60 of our members headed off to see the bears, tigers, lions, elephants and rhinos to name but a few, that call Whipsnade home. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo covers over 600 acres and is home to over 3,800 animals at present. It is one of the largest conservation parks in Europe.
Whipsnade was also blessed in June with the arrival of four beautiful Amur Tiger Cubs to parents Botzman and Naya.. Now at 12 weeks old Makari, Czar and Dmitri continue to do well and draw a lot of attention as they get more and more curious. The last of the cubs sadly had to be put sleep at the end of August due to poor health and being unable to walk. Truly heartbreaking for everyone involved.
Throughout the day we were able to also take in talks on Elephants, Tigers, Lemurs, Otters, Sealions and Birds of the World as just a sample. After lunch we complimented this with a trip round the park on the Jumbo Express, great to take it all in again from a different viewpoint with the smell of an old steam train to remind you of days of old.
A truly fantastic day in a beautiful location, full of education. We would also like to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone at Whipsnade Zoo for their support on our visit, to our travel partners Mil-Ken and our excellent driver on the day Steve. A very special day and one that will live long in the memory.
